You MUST check out the animated gifs of the final melee runs ... and if
you want to track your own squirrel try out the melee tracking tools.

Then, when you try everything, come back here and tell Robert Morrison
(rhmorrison) how incredible it looks ... no complaining allowed - he spent
so much time on these tools that he didn't get to train a squirrel Crying or Very sad ...

Robert, your animations have been the very best part of the whole POTM contest ! Thank you very much for all the fun I have watching the squirrels eating nuts.

The animations are superb, and provided the added benefit that we didn't have to compete with Robert Twisted Evil .

Thanks Robert

P.S.

Is there any possibility of getting a .zip (or .tar.Z) in .nut format of the multi competition (obviously without YOU= lines). Alternatively, a listing of squirrel moves would do. Some of us with buggy squirrels would like to get a better idea of how we might of done (obviously not too meaningful, since other squirrels would have moved differently had we been on the board) without the bugs.

I second that. My records currently lack the move-by-move data for most of the squirrels, and, for obvious reasons, I would like to keep extensive records of the finals. Mr. Green

Bravo on the animations and the GUI, Robert. Very professionally done.

You can pick up the tar file of the six final MULTIPLE runs at:
http://dinsights.com/POTM/PICKUP

There's a readme file that contains the following:

Code:
The individual boards for each step of the six final
MULTIPLE runs are here... the file FINALRUNS.tar
contains all the files.  They will untar into six
directories, each of which contains a file describing
the status of the field at that move.   The file names
are suffixed with NNN to order them properly.

Each file is the state of the board after move N ... the
format is the same as the POTM format, except that the
"SQUIRREL" lines have the actual name of the squirrel and
current score of each squirrel is added to the end of the line.

This is sample mid-game output from the melee run for
a smaller test run on October 24th.  The larger board is simlar.
Note in particular the scores will follow the squirrel names.

Much thanks, Fred. It's very kind of you to be so tolerant of our abject lunacy. Cool

BTW, all during this contest, from the moment I started work on my squirrel, I've been seeing a lot of conspicuous occurances of squirrels appearing or being mentioned on TV, on web pages, in magazines, in my yard, etc. Often as many as three in a day. Maybe now that it's over they will finally go away and leave me alone. Very Happy

I suppose now that I'm pondering the upcoming Xwords contest I'll probably start seeing WORDS everywhere I look. Laughing

...

...WAIT...Shocked...It's already started! I'm seeing them right now, right here on my screen...and more keep appearing even as I type this! AARGH!!

Thanks Fred.

While improving 101 at the last minute, I'd introduced a bug. Instead of moving to a square adjacent to the old X,Y, in certain situations 101 would move adjacent to the old X,X.

You're records let me get a better idea of how 101 would've done. It was a bit better than the greedy squirrels, but not terribly impressive. On its two best boards it might have been in the top 10.

However, without my bug, Filbert E's incredible results might have been even better. On the CITIES map, 101 would have headed for the northwest corner of the board (after one initial step to the northeast). This would probably have meant that Abert (who also went northwest) would have scored a bit less, quite possibly moving Filbert from 2nd to 1st.

It looks like squirrel2 also self-destructed in the northwest, also helping Abert.

Allegations by the Nevada Gambling Commission that 101 and squirrel2 "took a dive" to help Abert are just nuts.
